Tariq Kumahl Malachi Fosu (born 5 November 1995) also known as Tariq Fosu-Henry is a professional footballer who plays for Brentford as a left winger in the Championship. Tariq is a product of Reading academy rising through Charlton Athletic and Oxford United before joining Brentford in January 2020. He was capped by England U18 team and made his senior international debut for Ghana in October 2020.

Club Career

Reading

Tariq Fosu began his career with Reading academy in 2004 and played either as a left-winger or an attacking midfielder.  Playing for the U18 and U21 sides Fosu was involved in many successes of the ranks and was awarded a scholarship at the end of the 2011-12 season.

He signed a professional contract with Reading during the 2013-14 season.  He was named in the first-team squad one three occasions in the 2014-15 seasom finally making his debut on the final day coming on a substitute for Jack Stacey in their 3-0 victory over Derby County. He extended his contract by two years on 26 June 2015 and was loaned out.

Fleetwood Town (loan)

Tariq Fosu joined League One side Fleetwood Town on loan on 11 November 2016 until 2 January 2016. There he made seven appearances and score his first ever senior career goal as they beat Swindon Town 5-1 on 21 November.

Accrington Stanley (loan)

Reading loaned Fosu again to promotion-chasing League Two side Accrington Stanley on 24 March 2016 until the end of the 2015-16 season. He made 8appearances for the team scoring three goals and played in the semi-final of the League Two play-offs losing to Afc Wimbledon. His impressive performances won him the League Two Player of the Month.

Colchester United (loan)

Fosu joined League One side Colchester United on 31 August 2016 on an initial half-season loan which was later extended till the end of the season. He made 34 appearances and scored six goals.

Charlton Athletic 

 

Tariq Fosu joined League One side Charlton Athletic on a permanent deal for an undisclosed transfer fee on 19 June 2017 signing a two-year contract. He scored a perfect hatrick (left foot, right foot and header) on 30 September 2017 against his former club Fleetwood Town finishing the season as the club’s second leading scorer. He turned down a new extension and departed the club after the 2018/19 season. He made 65 appearances at The Valley and scored 11 goals.

Oxford United 

Fosu joined Oxford United on 1 July, 2019 reuniting with his former manager at Charlton Athletic, Karl Robinson at the League One Club. He signed a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee and scored 10 goals in his first 33 appearances for the club.  He departed the Kassam Stadium on deadline day of the January 2020 transfer window when Brentford activated his release clause.

Brentford 

On 31 January 2020, Brentford activated his £750,000 release clause and signed him on a three and half years contract.  He made 11 appearances and scored one goal in the 2019-20 season as Brentford were defeated in the Championship play-offs Final.

International Career 

Tariq Fosu represented the England U18 team. He was called-up to the Ghana Black Stars squad for the two Africa Cup of Nations qualification games in March 2020 which were postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic. He made his first senior international career appearance in a friendly against Mali and Qatar in October scoring his first international career goal and the opener against Qatar as the Black Stars won 5-1.
