Seven persons have been arrested and charged by the Tema Regional Criminal Investigate Department (CID) Branch of the Ghana Police Service for scrambling for money scattered by armed robbers during police pursuit.

The seven were scrambling for and making away with some Ghc 120,845 which was thrown away by one of the armed robbers who was being chased by the Tema police.

In a statement signed by  Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu who is the Acting Public Relations Officer, the names of the suspects have been revealed as Sulemana Bancey, 62; Kwesi Hanson Smith, 66; Kabul Akuaku, 53; David Nartey Daniels, 30; Richard Attoh alias Amartey, 30; Qaadir Bancey, 31; and Awudu Mohammed alias Vuga, 36.

Three of the suspects, Richard Attoh alias Amartey, 30; Qaadir Bancey, 31; and Awudu Mohammed alias Vuga, 36; according to the Chief Inspector have agreed to pocketing a total of Ghc 2,500.00 from the total sum.


The Tema Regional Police CID responded to an April 23 robbery incident where two armed robbers perforated holes in the victim’s car with gunshots at the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) traffic light. The armed robbers attacked the victim with motorbikes¬† and were making away with Ghc 123,345.00 before police intervened.

The police shot one of the robbers on the spot while the other threw away the money in two polythene bags in a heated exchange of gunfire.

The chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu called on the general public especially those who witnessed the robbery or took part in the scramble to aid the police with information to help them retrieve the money.
