Some of the embittered workers at the Kwame Nkrumah Takoradi PTC Interchange went on strike due to poor working conditions.
A warehouse worker who is the spokesperson on behalf of the aggrieved workers, Philip Kogi Owoo, in a media interactions said that their daily wage of GHS19 was extremely insufficient considering the economic conditions and that they have resorted to strike after several failed attempts to get management resolve their plight. Our salaries are disgraceful. Construction work is energy supping. Our transportation and subsistence costs cannot be paid for one day by the this daily wage of GHS19. There is not even water for the workers on site. How do we deal with GHS19?. We want a raise. Until that happens, we’re not going back to work, he added.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia last year September cut sod for the construction of a Three-tier Interchange. The $2 billion SinoHydro funded project implemented by SinoHydro Corporation Limited , it was part of a master project being implemented in the country with support from the Chinese government with the completion time pegged at 30 months, say Dr. Bawumia last year.
This project is the first of its kind in the capital of the Western region which is intended to significantly reduce traffic and shorten travel times.
