A stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Kwamena Ahwoi has been speaking about his relationship with former President Jerry John Rawlings as he prepares to launch a book titled “Working With Rawlings”.
The longtime member of the party, Prof Ahwoi’s relationship with the former President deteriorated following the election of Professor John Evans Atta Mills into office.
In his yet to be released book, “Working With Rawlings”, the Kwamena Ahwoi said Rawlings did try to get him to undermine the president at the time, Professor John Evan’s Atta Mills, in whose campaign he (Kwamena Ahwoi) played a vital role.
“I personally was responsible for bringing Prof. Mills into his government. Therefore, I felt a certain personal responsibility towards his success as President,” Prof Ahwoi said on Citi Breakfast Show.
“But when President Rawlings started turning against him in the manner that he did, it really upset me and I think that is when deterioration in the relationship began,” he added.
Despite his fallouts with the former head of state, Prof Ahwoi maintained that, “Rawlings was a fantastic leader and there was a time that I would have died for him. As at the time we left office in 2001, the relationship between us was just fantastic.”
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi will be launching his tell it all book, “Working With Rawlings” on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
