Federal brokers from Puerto Rico seized a file 2,500 kilos of cocaine off a man-made submarine from Colombia earlier this month.

The vessel is the primary of its type to be intercepted off the U.S. territory island’s Caribbean Sea, W. Stephen Muldrow, United States Lawyer District of Puerto Rico, stated in a press convention Monday.

The semi-submersible vessel set off from Colombia and was headed to Puerto Rico to ship a cargo of cocaine value $72 million when it was intercepted by the USA Coast Guard a minimum of 152 miles off the northern coast of the Colombian port metropolis of Punta Gallinas on April 8.

Colombian nationals Arturo González-Quiñones, Freiman Yepes-Ospina, and José Álvaro Córdoba-Rentería have been arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury April 4. 

They have been charged in a four-count indictment that features costs of conspiracy to own a big amount of cocaine with the intent to distribute it in Puerto Rico.

Muldrow revealed González-Quiñones is identical individual he accused in a separate drug trafficking case throughout his time as a federal prosecutor in Tampa, Florida, in 2008. 

González-Quiñones was launched on bail in 2019, in accordance with Telemundo Puerto Rico.

Muldrow indicated will probably be the primary time that Puerto Rico prosecute drug traffickers beneath the 2008 Drug Trafficking Vessel Interdiction Act.
