A teenage boy has shot himself with a spear gun whereas spearfishing with mates late at night time.

The 15-year-old was swimming with two mates when he by chance speared himself within the foot at 11.05pm on Wednesday.

The three mates managed to swim to shore and name for assist on the backside of a cliff face close to Townsend Bluff within the seaside city of Inverloch in Gippsland, Victoria.
