Tema regional police commander, Deputy Police Commissioner (DCOP) Edward Johnson Acrofi-Oyrifi, announced on the sidelines of the disinfection and fumigation exercise that took place on Thursday (May 21, 2020) on regional orders.

According to him, of the ten COVID-19 prisoners, nine were from Ashaiman cells, while one was recorded in a cell in Kpone. However, he said that none of the police in Tema had previously tested positive for the disease.

“Fortunately, all the other prisoners who were in cells with Covid-19 inmates were tested negatively and therefore sent to Ankaful prison,” the regional commander said.

In addition, DCOP Akrofi-Oyirifi said that his equipment had made a proposal to the court to isolate and treat these prisoners to ensure the safety of these Covid-19 prisoners. Regarding social distance within cells, he said that prisoners in cells were better protected.

This is due to the fact that when they are locked in their cells, they are not exposed to other populations.

“So I think it’s better for them, even if they are in a cell because then they will be isolated and quarantined by other Ghanaian residents,” he said.

Tema regional police commander took the opportunity to praise the officers stationed during the partial blockade.

“Our troops during the partial blockade were always brave enough to train people traveling to Tema and the surrounding area, and I must say that they are professionals in working with blocking guidelines,” he said happily.
