Liverpool new acquisition Thiago Alcantara tests positive for Coronavirus and is self isolating for ten days the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Thiago made a switch to the Anfield last month in a deal worth £25m and made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Chelsea on September 20.
Surprisingly Thaigo was absent in Liverpool’s squad that hosted Arsenal in their 3-1 victory at Anfield and his absence has now been explained.
On their Twitter account, Liverpool share an offical statement that read: “Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.
“The club has, and will continue to follow all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Thiago will remain in self-isolation for the required period of time.”
On Monday the Premier League announced 10 players or club staff had returned positive results for Coronavirus in the latest round of testing which was the highest ever recorded since testing begun.
The figures included three results from West Ham with club manager David Moyes inclusive- who has missed two games as a result.
It is still unclear whether Thiago’s test result was inclusive in the figure that was released on Monday for the latest round of testing which was conducted between 21-27 September.
Liverpool play Arsenal again in the Carabao Cup on Thursday and then travel to Villa Park on Sunday for before the Premier League goes on a two-week break for international games.
