Two construction workers were killed in the Ashongman Estates as a result of the falling fence wall. They were identified as Richard Ankrah and Richard Darko. His colleague, Tommy Dogbenu, is also in critical condition and is being treated at the Ashongman Community Hospital. DSP Effia Tenge, head of the Accra regional police PR department, confirmed this to Ghana in an interview with Accra based media on Saturday.
He said police received an emergency call at around 8 am on June 5, 2020, that some workers had a wall fall on them at the road construction site at Ashongman Estates.
“A team came to the scene and found a man, named Richard Ankrah, who died in the gutter that was being built,” DSP Tenge said. “Two other workers, including Darko, are said to have been taken to Ashongman Community Hospital, but Darko died shortly after his arrival.
“Information received from the hospital explains that 36-year-old Dogbenu, who was seriously injured, was transferred to 37 military hospitals.” She said the remains of the walls of the collapsed private house were still in a ditch or gutter.
Meanwhile, two more houses, whose walls were affected by road construction, were demolished by NADMO community officials to prevent further disaster.
DSP Tenge said the bodies were left for autopsy at the police hospital’s morgue.
It’s unfortunate and sad that this has happened, may their souls rest in peace whiles wishing those hospitalized speedy recovery.
