A local mob in Lingbensi, near Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah have lynched a suspected thief reported to have allegedly stolen a mobile phone worth Ghc 70.00 and an amount of Ghc 1004.00 in cash.
The dead body of the deceased covered with bruises was uncovered in the Lingbensi community according to the Police. The Regional Commander of the Savannah Region, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Enoch Adwutum Bediako said the Assemblyman for the area accompanied by three other men came to report the matter to the Police.
Following the report the DCOP said the police followed up to the scene in the company of the complainants. Before a hearse could be found and transport the body to the morgue for post mortem, the deceased was buried in line with Islamic traditions.
The DCOP said the deceased, Isaiah Abraham reported stole a Tecno T73 mobile phone valued at Ghc 70.00 and a cash amount of Ghc 1,004.00 from one Latif Basingwe. He said that, intelligence the Police have gathered revealed that Abraham was chased and lynched by a mob from the community.
No arrests have been effected so far in connection with the crime. The DCOP advised the villagers to desist form lynching suspected criminals and resort to law for justice.
