Watford have completed the signing of the son of Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, Mitchel.
The Hornets have completed a short-term deal for Mitchel with an option to extend the contract if he enjoys a successful spell with the club’s U23 squad.
Mitchel, November last year spent a week training with Arsenal’s U23 side at London Colney but was let go following the trail.
Bergkamp has been available as a free agent since leaving Dutch side Almere City following a nine-year spell with the club.
The 22-year-old plays as an attacking midfielder and following his move to Watford he admitted that he cam handle the pressure that comes with being the son of Dennis Bergkamp.
He told the club’s website: “Wen I was younger it was difficult [to be compared all the time] but I’ve adapted to it now.
“It’s just my name and I’m my own player and hopefully I can leave my own legacy. He’s been amazing to me and for me. He’s my No.1 fan and has always been there for me. It’s a privilege to have him as my dad and to work with him on my game.
“I’m very pleased and really excited for the future,” Mitchel added when asked about his move to Watford.
“It’s great to get this opportunity and I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start the hard work. I’ve been on trial, I’ve been working hard and I’m just really glad to get the chance to prove myself.
“I want to prove myself with the Under 23s and then one day hopefully get an opportunity for the first team. But it all starts with hard work.”
