‘She was identified to be an individual who labored onerous and would tolerate being at their beck and name 24/7 through the interval she was with them,’ he stated.

The couple have pleaded not responsible to deliberately possessing the girl as a slave.

The girl was married at 14, had 4 kids and have become a grandmother by 29. She had no formal schooling, was illiterate and had labored within the fields since childhood.

She had hoped to earn cash in Australia to assist help her household in India, Mr Maidment stated.

‘By August 6, 2007, she had turn into an illegal non citizen with the total information and connivance of (the couple),’ he stated.

The girl stated she had been unable to even open the entrance door with out the couple’s permission and that with the quantity of chores she was given she slept solely an hour an evening.

She was taken to hospital in September 2015 in an emaciated situation and struggling sepsis.

Mr Maidment stated the couple’s motivation was clear.
