Former Barcelona captain and club legend Xavi Hernandez has reportedly agreed a 4.5million-a-year-deal to replace Quique Setien at the Camp Nou.
Setien since replacing Ernesto Valverde in January hasn’t had it easy at the Camp Nou with speculations mounting that the club’s board are looking forward to parting ways with the manager.
Reports according to Mundo Deportivo claims a firm agreement has been reached which will see Xavi takeover from Quique Setien at the end of the season.
Lionel Messi who has been in the papers lately that he is considering his future at the Camp Nou and his team mates are believed to be satisfied with the appointment of Xavi.
Xavi currently manages Al-Sadd and ended the club’s trophy laden season since he joined in 2017 as a player before being announced as thier manager on 28 May 2019 where he won the Qatar Cup and the Qatari Super Cup.
Xavi passed through the ranks of youth football at the Camp Nou since joining La Masia at age 11 and made 767 first team appearances for Barcelona.
The midfield maestro admitted last month that he and his coaching staff are preparing to take over at Barcelona in the future.
He told a video conference: ‘The biggest hope I have now is to be Barca coach and get Barca back to winning ways.
‘Not me but these players and Barca triumphing. And as a consequence, our technical staff, who are preparing for it a lot and it makes us really excited.’
Xavi refused the initial offer to succeed Valverde as a result of lack os experience as manager to move the club forward as expected.
But this time around, the 40 year old appeared to have been tempted by the offer.
Setien isn’t having it easy at the Camp Nou with many expecting him to be sacked by the end of the season with the board unhappy about the team’s recent performances and also the players reportedly have turned against the manager due to confusion over his instructions.
